It has one long central and two short shaped frieze drawers on one side and false drawers on the other. It is raised on cabriole legs headed by stunning scrolled acathus foliate espagnolettes and terminating in ormolu sabots.It is freestanding and finished with beautiful foliate marquetry on all sides so that it can stand freely in the centre of your room.Complete with the original working locks &nbsp;and key.The locks are stamped VF Paris with the crossed keys mark.The underside of the desk is stamped in ink: 'HOPILLIART et LEROY, 13 RUE DES ST. This work is also referred to as Bantam work, originating in Bantam, Dutch East Indies, and China for export to the European market.
The subject matter is of a major pavilion with numerous mandarins going about their daily lives. All of high quality and in the sought-after and refined chinoiserie taste.
In superb unrestored state and ready to use. This makes a lovely antique chinoiserie drinks cabinets.
The fashion icon Coco Chanel had a large collection of Coromandel lacquer items in her Parisian apartments.

Coromandel lacquer is a type of Chinese lacquerware, latterly made mainly for export. Referred to as such only in the West because it was shipped to European markets via the Coromandel coast of south-east India, where the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) and its rivals from a number of European powers had bases in the 18th century.

Coromandel lacquer is also known as kuancai and shenke in Chinese. It is a type of polychrome lacquer where designs carved into the smooth lacquersurface were filled with painted colours. The technique has a relatively short manufacturing history and limited written record. Most of its surviving examples are found in European collections.

In 18th century England&nbsp;Bantamwork&nbsp;signified a particular style of export lacquerware which was cut into a layer of gesso and then lacquered in colours.

Early 18th century Coromandel lacquer corner cabinet

An English fret-carved mahogany wall, or pier, mirror. Late George II period, circa 1760.
The unusual, undulating, serpentine inner border is gesso carved and parcel gilt. The moulded frame is flanked with well-carved oak leaves, acorns and trailing foliage, all in giltwood.
This antique (Georgian) fret-carved pier or wall mirror is larger than usual. The broad mahogany outer frame is carved with boldly defined scrolls, is well patinated, retaining old waxed surfaces of very good colour.
Mirror plate is an old replacement. Backboards are all original. In excellent condition overall.

George II period carved mahogany pier mirror

Regency period polychrome papier-m&acirc;ch&eacute; chinoiserie tray on a later bespoke ebonised stand. Antique (late Georgian) tray table, circa 1810.
In excellent and original condition showing an exotic romantic chinoiserie landscape with pagodas, rockwork, a lake, birds and foliage.
Papier-m&acirc;ch&eacute; is French, literally meaning &ldquo;paper &ndash; mashed up&rdquo;; a material consisting of paper pulp, sometimes reinforced and pressed with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch, or wallpaper paste. A popular medium during the Regency period in England in the making of high quality and sophisticated trays decorated in the fashionable chinoiserie taste. The practice degenerated somewhat during and after the reign of Queen Victoria when these trays became mass produced. The fine Regency chinoiserie decoration was typically replaced with poor quality painting, sometimes inlaid with mother of pearl fragments.

A fine and rare English parcel-gilt walnut stool. Early 18th century, George I period, circa 1720.
Upholstered in 17th century tapestry and partially close-nailed. This antique stool retains most of the original parcel gilding to the acanthus carved knees. Blocks and rails are original. Of excellent proportions, of very good rich colour, and with a strong frame.
Nb. Parcel gilding essentially means partly-gilded areas of carved surfaces. It is unusual to have gilded acanthus carving continuing so far down the legs. This is indicative of its rarity and its early period.
The pair to this Georgian stool we are offering here is in the Great Chamber, Chatsworth, Derbyshire. See the illustration in Ralph Edwards CBE FSA &rsquo;The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture&rsquo; (Hamlyn, London, Fourth Impression 1972), p. 13.

This is a truly stunning antique pair of Italian Grand Tour black marble and slate ormolu mounted colonnade temple models, dating from the mid 19th century. &nbsp; This pair of &nbsp;colonnades feature domed topped roofs surmounted by ormolu flaming finials with classical gilt figural relief to the frieze, held up by six ormolu mounted Corinthian columns framing a central gilt dancing maiden in each.
