I have been dealing since 1970, originally in Portobello Road (six years). My first speciality was English silver as the basics are quite easy to learn however three years into Portobello the arcade was burgled and all silver and jewelry went, bereft of stock and capital I moved sideways to Georgian and Victorian useable table glass. At the time most glass dealers were only really trying to sell 'collector's items' so I had a fairly open field. In 1976 I opened a shop in South Wimbledon between an Asian butchers and a Greek barbers, I was working full time for the NHS so started early, opened the shop late afternoon and Saturdays and did fairs on Sundays plus I was still an occasional member of the GB fencing team - hectic life. 1980 I was 30 and decided something had to give so the full time job and fencing bit the dust and 1983 I opened a big shop in Wimbledon Village, a big gamble as I really had no idea if I could make it pay. Hard work and the support of several top dealers things worked.I had exhibited at Olympia since 1980 and was lucky enough to be invited in the late 1980s to exhibit at The Grosvenor House Fine Art & Antiques Fair plus exhibiting at every BADA Fair until it's sad demise. I also showed in New York, Palm Beach, Chicago and Baltimore plus vetting the European glass at New York's Winter Show.I was elected as a member of BADA in 1985 and was made a Fellow of the Corning Museum of Glass (the world's greatest glass museum) in 2010 (the only current UK dealer to be a fellow and one of only a handful of UK fellows),I have written two books in the Miller's series one of which is in three languages and has sold 20,000 + copies. Now getting older but still carying a large stock we exhibit at some good UK fairs, have a large web site and have a big presence on the BADA web site and am proud and excited to now have joined 2Covet.
