The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair: A 2Covet Review

Petworth Park by Michael John Hunt of The Hunt Gallery

Last weekend saw the official comeback of the antique fair, as Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair took place from 11-13 September within the beautiful Petworth Park. 2Covet Dealers Fileman Antiques, Haynes Fine Art and Walton House were exhibiting their incredible pieces at the event, which is the first fair to return since the 6 month hiatus.

The 2Covet team visited on the opening day of the fair, and were delighted to see a bustling town centre, with people still enjoying the surrounding areas and quintessential sights of Petworth. The buzz of the local area filtered through into the fair itself, with an above average attendance who were specifically there to shop, shop, shop. Demonstrating how the fair calendar can successfully resume in the current circumstances, the Petworth Fair team had all appropriate measures in place to ensure the safety of customers and dealers. As we meandered around the fair, amongst the masks and hand sanitiser we couldn’t help but notice a sense of normality as people sat in the designated seating areas to have a coffee and soak up the atmosphere.

Haynes Fine Art gave their perspective on The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair.

‘The fair was busy with a strong footfall, lots of interest especially with our contemporary pieces. A number of regular faces were missing with some of our established clients choosing not to venture out yet. We have been exhibiting at this show since its conception. We managed to make five sales, all contemporary at a sensible price level. Tony Karpinski was the true star of the show with us making regular trips to the wrapping counter. Notably many of the visitors had strong connections to London and therefore had an affiliation with his subjects.

Although we enjoyed making sales the highlight of the show was being part of the celebration of being amongst art and antique enthusiasts again, the feeling of some normality!’

The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair marked a poignant moment in 2020 for many dealers within the trade, and the positivity and enthusiasm is evident as we look forward to scheduled events in the remainder of 2020, such as The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair and The Winter Art & Antiques Fair. The 2Covet Team are genuinely pleased to see people are still coming through the door, and hope the old traditions and modern conventions can work synonymously for the trade.
